Putting on the Ritz
It’s a given that when starting a new job employees may be required to don or wear a uniform or be subject to a dress code. Employee conduct that violates the dress code or puts the company/corporation in a bad light may be grounds for termination.
The same is true in sports. Putting on the uniform identifies players with their teams. Bad conduct on or off the field can reflect on the team as a whole as well as the individual player and result in fines, penalties and/or termination.
It’s no different when it comes to religion, take that car that exhibits reckless or bad driving behavior and that displaying a Christian fish or Church decal lets everyone know who you are or what you believe that is not what you practice in real life. What if someone followed you to that “reserved for pastor” parking spot in front of the church or on Sunday morning?
In politics it’s easy to spot the big blue “D”, “Biden” or big red “R”, “Trump” sticker and cause someone suffering from what amounts to political PTSD to have a total meltdown.
The same goes for social media. Certain words, names or images cause havoc with people’s psyche as they become triggers to “instant response before thinking” and bad things happen.
Why is it that posting about Team USA in the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on FB is so offensive or considered violating community standards?
Pride in one’s nation sparks patriotism and garners exuberance and support during what amounts to the Super Bowl of Super Bowls! Therefore it is incumbent upon Team USA players to be on their very best behavior and demonstrate superb sportsmanship at all times while placing others before themselves. It is never the time or place to demonstrate political disobedience especially when they or their countrymen are on the podium as their nations flag flies in their honor or while their nations National Anthem is being played. – RTM
