Department of Homeland Security
How is it that the media wrongly label nearly all federal law enforcement as I.C.E. operations? It could be due to willful ignorance of those don’t know what they’re talking about or what they see in the news.
Whether it is state or local law enforcement gang units operating to take down gang members or federal law enforcement going after felons or illegal activity not all police activity can be attributed to ICE.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created as an umbrella over federal law enforcement to insure that various government agencies were able to communicate and share necessary information pertaining to criminal activities.
One such agency, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was created in 2003 merging the investigative and interior enforcement elements of the former U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Within I.C.E. there are three operational directives – Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and the Office of Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA), while a forth directorate Management and Administration (M&A) support the other three branches to advance the ICE missions.
ERO upholds Immigration law at, within, and beyond our borders enforcing immigration law against those who present a danger to our national security, are a threat to public safety, or who otherwise undermine the integrity of our immigration system.
ERO targets public safety threats such as gang members, convicted criminal undocumented aliens and gang members as well as those who illegally re-entered the country after being removed and immigration fugitives ordered removed by a federal immigration judge. ERO deportation officers assigned to INTERPOL also assist in targeting and apprehending foreign fugitives or Fugitive Arrest and Removal (FAR) cases who are wanted for crimes committed abroad and who are now at-large in the US.
ERO manages all aspects of the immigration enforcement process, including identification and arrest, domestic transportation, detention, bond management, and supervised release, including alternatives to detention. ERO removes undocumented aliens ordered removed from the US to more than 150 countries around the world.
Aiding and assisting illegal immigrants is a federal crime with potential fines and/or imprisonment.
I might suggest that instead of members of congress empowering lawlessness against ICE officers, they might better spend their time REFORMING U.S. Immigration Laws with meaningful changes to better protect the national security and make it easier to apply for lawful entry into the USA.
Recently a news story from the Vatican showed the very first Republican in history to become Pope Leo blessing a block of ICE. Was there significance to that or was Pope Leo sanctioning I.C.E. activity? We may never really know? – RTM
That’s the oddest thing a Pope could do, bless a piece of frozen water, unless it was going to be used as Holy Water when it melted. This Pope is turning out to be like the last one, pretty wokie.
