The Most Important

This seems like a good place to start. What is the most important thing you can teach your kids? Is life all about them or their happiness? Does the universe rotate around them?

The most important lesson in life is to love and honor God and to respect his creation. How we do that is really what parenting is all about. We must love who we are.

Luke 10:27 – He (Jesus) answered: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’.”

How can you love your neighbor as yourself when you don’t even like yourself? We are made in the image and likeness of God. If we are not taught and/or do not learn to love ourselves how can we love others?

How can we rid the world we live in of hate, turmoil and strife?

The answer is we can’t.

Parents have the unique job of teaching children to respect others, beginning at home. In order to be effective parents must be respectful toward their children while instilling in them the difference between right and wrong.

How do we know what is right or wrong unless we begin with biblical principles? Moses received Ten Commandments from God. They were not heavenly suggestions. We get the phrase “written in stone” meaning it’s final.

Let us review The Ten Commandments

  1. Have no other gods before God
  2. Do not worship things instead of God
  3. Do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, keep it holy
  5. Honor your father and your mother
  6. Do not kill
  7. Do not commit adultery
  8. Do not steal
  9. Do not speak falsely against your neighbor
  10. Do not keep your eyes on anything your neighbor has

When you try to follow the 10 Commandments you will begin to make better judgment decisions:

You will begin to show respect for other people and their property.

You will obey the rules set down by your parents and by authorities.

You will know the difference between right and wrong and make wise choices.

You will understand that the impression of yourself that you give to others will stay with them forever.

There is a time and a place for everything.

There is nothing new under the sun.

To live is to learn.

Parents are to provide a loving and nurturing environment for their children.

Parents provide boundaries and teach their children to follow them.

Parents provide the necessities of life (food, shelter, clothing, and discipline).

Parents grant and take away privileges (time for: friends, television, telephones, games, computers and radios).

The mind of a child is not the same as the mind of an adult.

Children must learn to be obedient, play, work, and interact with others.

Adults must learn to productively contribute to society.

Respect is something everyone deserves, it is easier to give it, and harder to receive it.

Disobeying the rules of life brings misery and causes unhappiness.

Exodus 15:26 – He (God) said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”

What we are seeing happening in our society and around the world is a foretaste of things to come. We see racial division being fed by hate, intimidation and bullying on a scale never seen before during our lifetime. What is happening is a world of fear, where good is called bad and bad is called good. Everyone who disagrees with those in power are harassed and intimidated until they relent and give up.

I’m reminded of heaven and hell, what it will be like for everyone after death. For the believer who follows the teachings of Jesus and have accepted his free gift of salvation heaven will be a place of eternal peace without pain or sorrow.

For those who choose not to believe or to reject the gift of salvation through the blood of Jesus hell will be a place of eternal torment where good does not exist. It will be a place of darkness where the sun never shines. In fact life without God is literally hell on earth. The killings, the threats and intimidation we see around us are nothing in comparison to what is in store for those without God.

John 3:15-19

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

The bible tells us that now is the day of salvation. – I am the Real Truckmaster!
