The Grand Experiment Called America

“When was America ever great?” my grandson asked. He then alluded to the taking of land from the indigenous peoples (Indian tribes) by white settlers, but we never quite got to the issue of slavery in America.

This short conversation got me to thinking of why did groups of Europeans leave their homeland to embark on individual journey’s into the unknown? After all so called “experts” said the world was flat and anyone who challenged that idea would simply fall off the edge.

We’ve heard a lot about people being overtaxed to the point that they would take their chances on a sailing ship into the unknown, where they would be free to worship God and raise their families free from the tyrannical kingdoms of Europe.

For those who survived the ordeal that took weeks if not months they found that the overreach of the European kingdoms stretched across the vast Atlantic Ocean and setting foot on the new continent did not mean actual freedom from oppression or taxes.

The new inhabitants of what became the original 13 colonies were still being governed and taxed, without any representation. The kings believed what was his was his and what was theirs was his as well.

What many wanted was a place where they were free to build their homes, work the land and worship God without any outside interference. Initially settlers interacted with local tribes exchanging ideas about which crops were best for their particular area and climate – thus the first Thanksgivings were about the abundant blessings of God.

As the various tribes did not consider land something to be “owned” but shared and “Mother Earth” was to be worshipped. Culture is unique among people around the earth and passed down from generation to generation.

There were some people who felt that religion was something everyone had to accept. Looking at early paintings and photographs it seemed that in order to be accepted as “civilized” western clothing was a must.

Among those who came to the colonies were men and women, good and bad and the mix wasn’t always good. The bible tells us that the root of all evil is money. It is still true today.

I heard Steve Harvey say that all that we have and all that we are came from the imagination of people (read it again).

The imagination of dreamers brought various people from all over the world and what they did individually and collectively can be seen all around us today.

God created man and gave birth to man’s creative genes.

Everything didn’t flourish overnight. It took a lot of hard work for things to begin to take shape in the colonies over many years. When it came time to declare independence and fight for freedom there were years of suffering. Settling on a particular type of government was a painstaking ordeal that no one could agree, except that there would be “NO KINGS” (the first movement).

The founding fathers finally agreed from the start we not settle for a democracy or simply a republic but that we become a Constitutional-Republic by the drafting of a bill of rights and a constitution that was different than any other nation in the world at that time, or since.

From a ragtag band of brothers and sisters who stood up to the greatest empire in the world at the time and won independence (7-4-1776), we became The United States of America where our rights come from our creator and government is from and of the people.

As a nation we have made mistakes, and yet strived to bring peace to a world constantly in a state of war. We have had 47 presidents with varied backgrounds and life experiences who have been successful when not leaning on their own understanding but seeking guidance from Almighty God.

It’s important to note that on this 250th year of independence, America is the greatest nation on earth and we bow our knee to Almighty God, from whom our strength comes from.

When I hear someone say they are strongly “Anti-MAGA” I have to ask what does “MAGA” mean to you? Are you not grateful to be living in a society where you are free to speak, travel, work, and raise your family to worship Almighty God as you choose?

MAGA = Make America Great Again isn’t just a nifty slogan, but a means of uniting Americans together as one people, under God, a light to the world around us, a testament of what mankind can do when imagination is unlimited and hard work leads to the American Dream.

If you have no pride in America, need I suggest that you go back to history textbooks that chronicle the defeats and triumphs of the men and women who came before you? – RTM
