Power vs Authority

I’m sure volumes have been written about both power and authority. Someone with authority does not have to prove but must exercise their authority to those who fall under that authority. The owner of a business tells the employees what is expected of them to do their jobs, but is not involved in the daily goings on of the company. He is concerned with efficiency, customer satisfaction and making a profit.

A millionaire who doesn’t have to prove his wealth, he knows what he has and is free to spend it as he wishes. On the other hand someone might hang around those who are wealthy hoping it will rub off and onto them, or as a means to impress others.

There are unwritten rules that you don’t go into someone else’s place and tell them how to do things unless you have authorization – authority! You don’t criticize the chef who’s cooking your meal and you don’t go into mammas kitchen without permission and you don’t mess with your barber!

God is the ultimate authority of the universe. The Word of God is the ultimate authority for man to live by on earth. It doesn’t matter whether we like it or hate it – God’s Word is supreme. We have only 2 choices – Obedience or Disobedience. Understand there are consequences for both.

The establishment of governments and rulers is by God. Nobody becomes a king, a president or a ruler unless it is brought about by God. Thus it is under HIS authority that rulers rise up and are brought down. Throughout history we can see that not all rulers have been good. In fact it is the nature of man to sin against the will of Almighty God.

We are told in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” God is not taken by surprise.

The Constitution of the United States clearly states that state and federal governments receive power from the citizens. Power not given to the state or the federal government is retained by the citizens.

Therefore politicians have the constitutional authority AND responsibility to use their enumerated powers wisely. Why do we so often see the blatant misuse of power beyond the authority of their political office?

Once someone has been given power its taste often leads to wanting more and can best described by a quotation of the 19th century British politician Lord Acton “Absolute power corrupts absolutely“.

Someone with power but not having authority will almost always try to exert that power by brute force over another. They feel it is their right, their obligation to demonstrate the power of their might as a means of intimidation to control someone else.

We see it when a drug dealer or a rapper to flash their cash or fling their bling in the face of others online selfies and videos for their friends, associates and rivals as a sign they have arrived. I call it greed.

Over time we have seen a lot of corruption take over American politics and those elected into political office become lifetime politicians feeding and bleeding tax dollars for their own personal gain while many have become millionaires.

For years American Christians have pleaded with God to save our nation and heal our land. The bible states very clearly, ” if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Our hearts are stubborn and we want God to act without us doing our part. Some have even gone so far as to demand an answer from God.

It is ludicrous for the pot to demand of the potter ANYTHING!

When God does hear committed Christians, seeking God’s face and humbly praying for forgiveness of the sins of our nation, he is quick to forgive and eager to answer.

All too often when the answer comes we think God has made a mistake? Let me assure you that God does not make mistakes. Everything is according to HIS plan and HIS will.

What would you do if God called YOUR NAME? What would your reaction be? Would you hide? Would you say I’m not worthy? Or would you say, “Speak Lord, your servant listens?” Those are all reactions from men of the bible. What about David who stood up against the giant Goliath and by the power of God slew the giant with a single stone?

In 1986 Donald Trump during a televised interview was asked if he would ever consider running for President. Without hesitation he said, “If my country needed me I would run.” This calling lasted for more than 30 years by the man who was making his mark in New York real estate construction yet felt that the time was not yet. This was a man who had power and authority in Trump Enterprises. He had everything imaginable, all the money and toys and lived the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

As American Christians continued praying God heard their prayers.

If you’ve read “The Faith of Donald J. Trump” you know what Paul Harvey would have said, “The rest of the story”.

When God called, Donald Trump said, “Yes Lord, your servant listens”. Not in those exact words because let’s face it God knew him, but he did not yet really know God. Over a period of weeks if not months God put into motion a series of events that would provide conformation of the calling God had put into the heart of Donald Trump many years before.

It is often God’s plan to use other people, (strangers) to bring forth a word from God that confirms what God has been speaking to our hearts. That is what God did in this instance. He spoke to a man of God in Texas that Donald Trump would be the 45th President of the United States. At first the man laughed. He didn’t know Trump and this sounded at the very least farfetched. Then God spoke to him a second time and said that Donald Trump would be an Isaiah 45 President. God said go tell Donald Trump he would stop evil and be a sword to the spirit of political correctness. A few weeks later that man was invited by a pastor to a meeting with Donald Trump in Trump Tower. He was asked to tell what God had said. The man repeated what God had said and to be clear read Isaiah 45 in its entirety.

In 2015 when Donald and Melania Trump came down the escalator and as Trump announced his intent to run for President of the United States America was stunned and went into a state of shock. For many it seemed as if God had made a huge mistake Trump couldn’t possibly be God choice for America.

I will tell you again – God doesn’t make mistakes. He takes the most unlikely to do the unthinkable in order to demonstrate HIS power over any situation. God gave power and authority to Donald Trump as he ran an unlikely campaign against very seasoned politicians.

I won’t go into the details of the past 4 years, but I can tell you that the sheer force of evil that has come up against Donald Trump from that day in 2015 until today in 2020 would have toppled even the most experienced politician without God’s help. We have seen an increase in political correctness across America and throughout the world as the forces of darkness continue to opposed and resist what God is doing. When you have power and authority and are doing what God has commanded, nothing can stop you unless allowed by God. – I am the Real Truckmaster!
