The America of the Trump Presidency

TrumpDOJ

Well where to begin?

God is Great (All the Time).

Jesus is my Lord.

Trump is my President.

In case I haven’t offended you yet, stick around.

(Sorry Hollywood, you guys will just have to wait your turn).

For those liberal ostriches’ that foam at the mouth every time the president tweets, guess what your liberal politicians have been doing in the name of “Save the Dreamers”.

Maybe we should start off with the “BLUE STATES” of California and New York. In 2017 we began seeing “sanctuary cities” and “sanctuary states” where governors have decreed and the state legislatures have agreed not to obey federal laws or cooperate with the federal “Trump” government’s crackdown on unlawful and illegal immigration without proper documentation.

We are led to believe that these “Dreamers” have the right to reside in this country, receive work authorization and/or full welfare state benefits to include housing and medical, simply because they were brought here by their “parents”?

Oh before I forget, under an unlawful and illegal executive order (DACA) by an undocumented president in 2012, as if that makes it right?

While this is debated beyond belief, California has initiated a plan to capitalize on the new corporate tax credit of the Trump administrations Tax Reform Plan, and require corporations in California to give 50% (thus far) of their savings to the state treasury? Somebody obviously didn’t think that thru did they? What will begin happening (if not already) are corporations will relocate their entire operations in places like Wyoming or Montana.

Also happening to the sleeping citizens of California are the legislature proposing to pass a bill, when signed by the governor “gerrymandering” Brown that will effective close mom and pop eateries, as well as restaurants across the state because waiters and waitresses will be jailed for 6 months/fined $1,000 and/or fired because they “asked a customer if they wanted a plastic straw”? This is viewed as unsolicited offering of plastic?

California has joined the unhinged legislative states like Colorado, Oregon and others by making legal recreational marijuana even though it’s a federal crime.

“Blue New York City” has decided to become a “sanctuary city” and prevent federal law enforcement from deporting any of their undocumented citizens?

Stepping into the mix is “Blue Washington” the state, where the governor has issued a decree that stops state agencies from revealing the birth nation of wanted illegal aliens.

All the while in the halls of congress the liberal left politicians are DEMANDING from the president that “dreamers” be protected, while forgetting that THEY WRITE THE BILLS and the president either signs it into law or vetoes it and they can turn that veto around in accordance with their constitutional powers?

Does anybody have any common sense?

It seems to me that many of our politicians were hard charging legal professionals prior to their entry into politics. Once they are elected, and “welcomed” into the halls of congress, they are encouraged to check their brains into their locker or sit quietly and watch the real adults (Sorry but there seem to be no real adults in the room).

Well step aside as a real adult announced a solution on Immigration on 25 January 2018 (And so you don’t get my slanted version of it – here it is from the White House website.)

White House Framework on Immigration Reform & Border Security

 IMMIGRATION

ALL NEWS

BORDER SECURITY: Securing the Southern and Northern border of the United States takes a combination of physical infrastructure, technology, personnel, resources, authorities, and the ability to close legal loopholes that are exploited by smugglers, traffickers, cartels, criminals and terrorists.

  • The Department of Homeland Security must have the tools to deter illegal immigration; the ability to remove individuals who illegally enter the United States; and the vital authorities necessary to protect national security.
  • These measures below are the minimum tools necessary to mitigate the rapidly growing surge of illegal immigration.
    • $25 billion trust fund for the border wall system, ports of entry/exit, and northern border improvements and enhancements.
    • Close crippling personnel deficiencies by appropriating additional funds to hire new DHS personnel, ICE attorneys, immigration judges, prosecutors and other law enforcement professionals.
    • Hiring and pay reforms to ensure the recruitment and retention of critically-needed personnel.
    • Deter illegal entry by ending dangerous statutorily-imposed catch-and-release and by closing legal loopholes that have eroded our ability to secure the immigration system and protect public safety.
    • Ensure the detention and removal of criminal aliens, gang members, violent offenders, and aggravated felons.
    • Ensure the prompt removal of illegal border-crossers regardless of country of origin.
    • Deter visa overstays with efficient removal.
    • Ensure synthetic drugs (fentanyl) are prevented from entering the country.
    • Institute immigration court reforms to improve efficiency and prevent fraud and abuse.

DACA LEGALIZATION: Provide legal status for DACA recipients and other DACA-eligible illegal immigrants, adjusting the time-frame to encompass a total population of approximately 1.8 million individuals.

  • 10-12 year path to citizenship, with requirements for work, education and good moral character.
  • Clear eligibility requirements to mitigate fraud.
  • Status is subject to revocation for criminal conduct or public safety and national security concerns, public charge, fraud, etc.

PROTECT THE NUCLEAR FAMILY: Protect the nuclear family by emphasizing close familial relationships.

  • Promote nuclear family migration by limiting family sponsorships to spouses and minor children only (for both Citizens and LPRs), ending extended-family chain migration.
  • Apply these changes prospectively, not retroactively, by processing the “backlog.”

ELIMINATE LOTTERY AND REPURPOSE VISAS: The Visa Lottery selects individuals at random to come to the United States without consideration of skills, merit or public safety.

  • This program is riddled with fraud and abuse and does not serve the national interest.
  • Eliminate lottery and reallocate the visas to reduce the family-based “backlog” and high-skilled employment “backlog.”

For all you naysayers out there unless you have a solution to make this country safer, more secure and deal with immigration reform so that migrants wishing to come here can do so properly, you might want to loosen your bun a notch or two, put your thinking cap on and above all TURN OFF THE FAKE NEWS (airwaves, internet or print matter) and ink out a proper course of action.

Why I Don’t Watch CNN or MSM

Finger pointing

Why I don’t watch CNN or Main Stream Media

Remember the Iraqi Invasion CNN debacle with reporters on the beach filming and reporting in real time the “secret” invasion location by US forces? Need I say more?

There is a lot of ground to cover from the Halls of Congress to the Shores of California, so let’s get started!

Today it’s become fashionable to trash President Trump AND America on the airwaves, in the media and across the internet. Fashionable but not cool.

With the latest mantra of the liberal left in congress, saying if Trump fires Mueller he’s going to be impeached. Well is it for high crimes and misdemeanor? If not, what?

Since we have a special prosecutor who is and has been investigating the manufactured non-story of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign, maybe it’s time to end the “investigation”? If that’s the case how do you end it? Did the DOJ not initiate the investigation and appoint the special counsel? Can the DOJ not simply end it by un-appointing the special counsel and dismantling the “team”? Can that order not simply come from the Attorney General who can decide on his own that it’s time? Yes the AG works for the pleasure of the President of the United States who appointed him to uphold the laws of this country. The President can fire any of his appointees, at his pleasure and without cause, should he so choose to do so.

Too bad the president can’t fire some liberal left leaning democrats AND republicans for obstructing the office of the president? The voters certainly can, at the poles!

Maybe now is the time to stop the finger pointing and remember one finger points at someone else, while the other 3 point back at you!

CNN reported that the president tried firing Mueller; the president said he did not. My money is on President Donald J. Trump, his track record in office is so much better than even the worst liberal left leaning politician. In fact it’s so much better than his predecessor over the past 8 years.

So what to do, well the rumor mill is churning once again in an attempt to divide the president’s cabinet, his white house staff and the American public over anything and everything.

The president is upset with his chief of staff General Kelley – Not True!

The president said Mexico will pay for the wall, now they won’t – Not True!

The president is for a path to citizenship for illegal aliens – (10-12 years) True!

  • I personally think that a path to citizenship COULD be granted for illegal aliens who serve honorably for 3 years in the armed forces of the United States.

The president is mentally unstable because he tweets ALL THE TIME – Not True Either! In fact many liberal left leaning members of congress have and are demonstrating their lack of mental fitness every time they step in front of a microphone and OPEN THEIR MOUTH!

Currently there are members of congress who have decided to boycott the State of the Union address by the President. That is their right, right? Then to publically give their own “state of the union” simply shows their own “state of mind” is not right!

So it’s either lock-stepping behind the minority leader as his minions or goose-stepping out on their own seeking their own 15 minutes of fame. Not once have they stood fast for what is good for the American voters who elected them in the first place.

In my opinion, they should stop bad mouthing President Trump and look at the good that is happening in America, then fall in line with what is best for the American people.

DACA was a bad idea at its inception and was never blocked or even opposed when it was unlawfully signed by President Obama. (That is the fault of congress for not even putting up a defense against it!)

Nobody brought it before the 9th Circuit Court to have one of their own left leaning judges block it as being unconstitutional – Which it was!

Oh before I forget, businesses are benefiting from the new tax system going into effect. YEAH! Employees of some companies could get checks for over $7,000 from their employers. More YEAH!

The government of the independently thinking California want to take that money (part or all), and put it into the treasury of mismanagement? That is not only a bad idea, but by design it will encourage corporations and businesses (large and small) to move their entire operations out of California. Way to go California! One big Misstep for Mankind!

It gets even worse as California wants to fire, fine ($1,000) or jail time for waiters who offer (unsolicited) plastic drinking straws to patrons? Talk about STUPID! (There I said it – STUPID). Is there no common sense in California’s elected government officials? Do they not know how far off they are from anything resembling normal?

If you live in California, watch out for the next absurd or unconventional method of gaining revenue by a state that prides itself on rebelling against humanity and the Trump administration, but will do anything to keep lawbreakers out of jail, while jailing hard working Americans and American companies!

Yeah and didn’t California just legalize Marijuana? (Wait until someone tries to smoke a joint from a plastic straw and the Chinese manufacturer of the straw is facing a class action law suit over it?)

Wasn’t John Wayne once quoted as having said, “Life is Hard; But harder if you’re STUPID”?

Come on Governor Jerry Brown – “TEAR DOWN THIS WALL OF STUPID”! – I am the Real Truckmaster!

The Meeting

26230345_10156519281061336_158834735626352130_n

Did you wonder about that infamous meeting the president had in the Oval Office with various members of congress on 9 January 2018? Well I wondered about it, so when I found the video it was interesting to say the least, and that was before the president had reporters leave the room so they could get down to the business of negotiating.

What was reported to have been said by the president must have happened after reporters had left the room? As I listened to the various people speaking I couldn’t help but notice many of the members of congress present (I haven’t seen a list of names, but I’m sure it’s there).

The president told the four things he wanted done which he told congress on December 5th , it was pretty clear and straight forward:

  1. Secure our border (Fund the Wall, Close Enforcement loopholes, equip ICE and border patrol agents with what they need to do their jobs)
  2. Fund our Military
  3. End chain migration
  4. Cancel (VISA) lottery program

DACA (deal with it separately and fix the DACA correctly by 5 March).

Comprehensive Merit Based Immigration Reform that addresses Sanctuary Cities

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc5tIKFDy1s

The president said that congresses present methods of “working together” feed hate and do not lend to the same progress that came from the old system of “Earmarks”. Maybe they should consider going back to a form of “earmarks” system?

What will the president sign into law?

Phase I – DACA and Border Security (Wall, Close Loopholes) & Funding our Military is very important.

Phase II – Comprehensive Immigration Reform

It was brought up that a path to citizenship as an incentive to doing a good job is needed for those DACA “Dreamers” who are in our military, or currently enrolled in medical schools or working to become scientists, and those who are productive members assimilating into our society. This is taking care of DACA kids who were brought here by their parents without documentation.

Also it was mentioned that according to the latest DEA Reports – More drugs come thru ports of entry than between ports of entry, so the wall won’t stop the flow of drugs unless changes are made at the ports of entry.

The president stressed the fact that it will not be a solid wall across the southern border, but will be reinforced where needed, new construction where there is no wall and natural barriers will aid in deterring unlawful crossings without restricting the movement of natural wildlife.

The meeting seemed to be going well, with a few dissenters like Senator Chuck Schumer voicing what he won’t go along with or what HE wants.

The president repeatedly told them work out a deal and he would sign it. He also said he would take the heat from both sides, since that seems to be the current pattern.

President Trump said to take political division out of this process, meet together (both parties) of each legislative body and bring him a bill AND HE WOULD SIGN IT!

So it was a real stretch for Senator Pelosi to hold a news conference and announce to the world that “We don’t know what the president will sign!”

I purposefully did not watch any of the televised antics leading up to the “Schumer Shutdown” which unnecessarily shut down our government.

I was glad a deal was reached that was signed by President Trump to reopen government. Now if congress would just work together for the good of the American people, actually in the interests of the citizens of the United States, then it would benefit everyone, including the residents who live here.

I heard members of congress repeatedly say these undocumented aliens are Americans, they just don’t have papers to prove it.

That statement is kind of true and kind of not true at the same time. Technically ALL citizens of the Americas, North, Central and South America ARE Americans and their “papers” originate from their home countries.

Their home countries are where they should start the process of entering this country legally. For those who are here illegally, what have they done while in this country to rectify their immigration status? Have they worked hard to become citizens of the USA, as some have already done? Are they business owners, working within the laws of this nation? Or are they simply getting by, hoping that ICE doesn’t come knocking on their doors?

There are provisions in our immigration laws for many situations to be corrected, and comprehensive, merit based immigration reform is the next logical step to securing our borders and making America safe again.

There are many good Representatives (of the people) and Senators (from the states) who have committed themselves to making a better nation for everyone. But what I see are a few who have been in “public service” (I use the term loosely) way too long, have been given power that they are refusing to give up, so they are simply exercising a “Schumer-Bully” policy within both legislative bodies.

It is time for “Comprehensive Legislative Reform” that removes partisan politics and returns good common sense in ALL decisions of legislature.

Someone recently commented that certain people were hated because they were Democrats or because they were Republicans. That is simply not true (well there are those who hate because they have no peace in their own lives).

There are public figures that made bad decisions BEFORE they went into politics. It is those individuals who make bad politicians and continue to make bad decisions and have not been held accountable either by the citizens of this nation, or by the government they swore to uphold, even at the cost of human lives.

Accountability in Government has long been overdue. It’s time to “cowboy up” to what we do, what we say and take responsibility for our own actions, both as citizens and as public figures.

Remember, nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something. – I am the Real Truckmaster!

Trump Fall Out over DACA

25498453_1515021145284692_2038256472276508941_n

01-12-2018

So what was a “private” white house meeting to discuss ending DACA between President Trump and select legislators turned into a true show of colors and the deliberate “leaking” of what the president said, or did he?

It seems that some senators feel that it adds to their credibility to either leak lies or push a false narrative? It seems like Senator’s Graham and Durbin went into the meeting with the specific purpose of pitching their preferred version of a DACA continuation bill which they should have been smart enough to know would not fly with the president. Failing to win him over and being put on the spot by his specific questions of which they had no answers, simply deflected public perception of what happened in the meeting by releasing a totally false version of what the president said.

That being said none of the other senators and staffers present in the meeting have come out and confirmed the wording leaked was in fact truthfully stated.

So who said what, and why was it leaked when the meeting was clearly a private one with a specific agenda by the president AND by those two senators?

President Trump had already stated that he would only sign a bill continuing DACA providing funding for the border wall was part of the deal. The senators were in it to push forward their bill without any funding for the border wall. Clearly they were not going to fare well in the outcome.

So the “narrative” was leaked to the media and was promptly aired in an attempt to derail the president’s agenda and to draw public outrage of what the president had supposedly said.

The president has repeatedly stated that immigration must be with those who will add to the fabric of this nation, and not become an immediate burden to society, but criminal elements should not apply.

DACA is a program that was not implemented in accordance with the constitutional powers of President Barack Obama. Even if the goal had been honorable, the Executive Order was unlawful. What ended up happening was parents were encouraged to send or bring their children into the USA without documentation and ultimately the parents were able to obtain temporary legal status as a result. So it’s hard to hold the children liable for the actions of the parents, but probably the only reasonable way is to handle each of those cases individually, while initiating deportation procedures for every DACA recipient if it has not been renewed prior to the natural end of the program.

Back in September 2017 the president challenged legislators to correct the problem with a proper bill that included funding for the border wall and he would sign it. So it seems odd that it is now the middle of January 2018 and congress still has not made any significant progress? But would rather deflect through smoke and mirrors with a series of “stunts” solely aimed at discrediting the president instead of solving the problem that THEY ALLOWED President Obama to create without any resistance from a democratically controlled congress, just as they did with the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

I think the time is now to stop the feigned sense of horror over every action or choice of words from President Trump, when their own actions and their own words cross over the line of subversion and treason as they betray the very voters who sent them to congress.

It’s time for more of the legislative swamp creatures and liberal troublemakers end their self-induced power hungry reign and return to the states from whence they came, as real citizen public servants take the mantle from them.

Every legislator who has been in congress prior to the entrance of Barack Obama on the political scene should be ashamed of themselves if they have not accomplished what “We the People” have sent them to Washington to do! – I am the Real Truckmaster

On Illegal Immigration and DACA

read me sign

10-23-2012 (updated 01-12-2018)

On Illegal Immigration and DACA

OK ALREADY,

I’ve heard about enough on illegal immigration. Illegal is illegal! Those folks who are here illegally should be deported, unless they commit a crime. They should be imprisoned and upon finishing their time, then deported. Those who don’t like it can go with them. There are provisions for immigrants to come into the US on a work permit, for a specific period of time. Those who want to live here apply for an immigrant visa and work toward obtaining their citizenship the same way so many before them have done.

There is no justification for crossing the border without papers. If they are being persecuted and under threat of death in the country they are from, there are provisions for being granted an emergency visa, and they work toward obtaining their citizenship. Those coming here must obey the laws of this country, just as we who travel abroad must obey the laws of the country we are traveling in. Failure to do so exacts consequences and those who pay the price must not belly ache over it. They brought it upon themselves.

Those who are born in the US of immigrant parents WITH PAPERS are US citizens by birth. Those who have no papers, have no US citizenship. They are citizens of the country their parents are from. How hard is that to understand?

The US government has an obligation and a responsibility to protect our borders. If that includes posting state National Guard troops along its borders to assist the border patrol in keeping our borders secure, let’s do it. It’s the right thing to do.

It is the responsibility of our neighboring countries to do the same for their borders. Unless we go to an Multilateral American Immigration and Transit System (MAIT) that would allow citizens of all American (North and South America) to travel within the American countries without visas, or unless the United States adopts a policy of allowing citizens of other countries to enter with valid photo ID’s or nationally issued identification cards from their respective countries, we have basically one other option.

We could simply annex Mexico as our 51st state. Maybe we could call it Old Mexico. The President would become Governor, and the Mexico Federalies would become the Old Mexico National Guard, and patrol the borders from Central American nations.

Granted that option would open the US up to charges of imperialistic behavior toward our neighboring countries. We would be charged with wanting to colonize other nations simply for their natural resources (How ludicrous). Next Canada would feel threatened, and so would the island nations of the Caribbean.

I suggest we close our borders, station armed National Guard troops along the borders of their state and foreign soil. Demand that the Mexican government do the same and we have a sort of De Militarized Zone (DMZ). Smugglers should be treated as pirates or terrorists, dealing in human trafficking and be severely dealt with, on the spot. Making it not so desirable to cross over illegally should be the universal goal.

There should be a LIMITED amnesty program where those with family members who are citizens would be eligible to stay and work toward their citizenship. Those who are trouble makers or law breakers would be disqualified for amnesty, and dealt with as such.

To me illegal immigration is not a “gray matter”, it’s purely black and white. Our politicians should start using that “gray matter” between their ears and get serious with immigration. We as US citizens should not want it any other way.

A Concerned Citizen – in 2018
By the way, why has Barack H. Obama not been indicted for 1 count on each DACA recipient who came into this country without documentation? His executive order was not constitutional and those who are “covered” by it are therefore not here constitutionally and are in fact illegal aliens.
The DACA program must be terminated and every offender must be returned to their country of origin, or out the nearest port of entry. – I am the Real Truckmaster

It Amazes Me Even Now

FB_IMG_1414287257184

[Here it is the end of the year 2017, December 30th and in just a little over 24 hours we will begin a totally new year as a blessed people. Yes we have fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and typhoons happening all around us. There are those who are thinking – Ah Ha, I don’t have any of that happening in my neighborhood. I pity everyone who’s suffering. Well let me clue you in on something that one of my grandsons used to say to me, “Winters Coming”.

Our trust is in God and him alone to provide protection over our families, homes, communities and even our states and this nation we call ours, the United States of America. We have faced the brink of destruction and have been rescued by His Almighty Grace.

Some time back, 1989 or 1990 I came across a couple of books that provide an insight to the forces and events that shape our world. The first book is called “This Present Darkness” and it’s followed by “Piercing the Darkness”. I highly recommend that you read them and it will change the way you look at EVERYTHING going on today.

The bible tells us that we are not battling against things we can see, but the forces of this world, this planet are invisible, but very much alive and active. I’m not talking about ghosts and goblins and those kinds of things. I’m talking about spiritual forces, demons and devils (if you will) who have been sentenced by Almighty God and bound to the earth until such time as God say’s “It is finished” and casts them into the lake of fire, which He has prepared for them.

What amazes me even now is that people, humans and you may be one of them that think they are smarter than the creator and can outsmart their way into heaven by their charm, their wit and their sheer will power.

When Jesus was born that Christmas morning in Jerusalem he came as a wee little baby, wrapped in the skin of man, yet fully God. He came not to condemn the world, but to save the world, to save all mankind from the sin that began with Adam and Eve.

During his ministry years Jesus said “I am the way, I am the Truth and I am the Life and that no man comes to the Father except thru me.”It’s pretty clear, right?

From what I see everyone wants to go to heaven when they die. It doesn’t matter the religion because each one has a special, secret process that will take you down the road to heaven. All you have to do is find a holy man, tell him of your failures, do the ritual and maybe sprinkle some water and your good as new, right? Wrong!

Jesus also said to believe in him and to ask him to forgive your sin, turn from your wicked way and you SHALL have eternal life. It’s simple, right? What are you waiting for?

One religion will take you to the same place as every other religion when you die, but by then it’s too late to change your mind once you see the destination.

You will wish you could have a do over. Well friend I’m here to tell you that today, right now you can have a do over by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It’s not too late. So what are you waiting for?

The bible tells us to believe in our heart, confess with our mouth, that Jesus Christ is Lord and we SHALL be saved from our sins. Then we simply must turn 180 degrees away from our sinful past and follow Jesus.

Has anyone ever told you that Jesus Love You? How do you know, you ask? The bible tells me so. – I am the Real Truckmaster

Nothing New Under the Sun

2 year old cowboy salutes the flag

I’ve been going back over articles, notes and political ranting of the past 9 years and have come to the realization that there is nothing new under the sun when it comes to politics. What we had during the 2008 primary was Senator Clinton and Senator Obama vying for the Democratic Party votes and for the office of the Presidency was repeated during the 2016 primary as Secretary Hillary Clinton and Real Estate Tycoon Donald Trump sought the American voters in the quest for the Presidency.

There was a struggling economy, high taxes, homelessness, a failed healthcare system and illegal immigration was a huge problem. Remember the Freddy Mack and Fannie Mae fiasco? What about communities trying to eliminate homeless camps? Lots of folks were without healthcare? Illegals were flooding across the border?

What were the promises made by politicians back then and what proposed solutions were given in the form of campaign promises? In the first 11 months of the presidency of Donald J. Trump what has changed – The economy; taxes; homelessness; Obamacare or Trumpcare; immigration?

I venture to say that where there was despair, there is hope; where there was no confidence in our government; there is more confidence;

There has been a concerted effort by those aligned with the ideology of Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama and fueled by main stream media to bring despair and division to the American people.

That being said there has been a more concerted effort by those aligned with the ideology of President Donald Trump to bridge that division and to Make America Great Again; to bring pride back into America.

I can say that Americans are proud, hard workers who simply want to be treated fairly, taxed modestly and able to raise their families in safety, and to live the American dream. That is what has changed in just the last 11 months. – I am the Real Truckmaster

The Battle of Orange

AO Remember

We who have put on the uniform of the United States military were prepared for battle through meticulous training. We were told about the cunning ways of our enemy. We were taught how to fight the enemy not on his terms but ours.

We went to war in foreign lands. Many of our brothers and sisters engaged the enemy on the field of battle with devastating consequences. While the enemy felt our might, many of our brothers and sisters fell in battle. We honor and remember them, like the names on the wall.

We who remain have been fighting the Battle of Orange. It is an enemy we were not told about, nor were we prepared for the affect it has had on our lives over time. Without our knowledge or participation this enemy has whittled away at our body, cell by cell, tearing away at our bodies defenses.

Strangely once exposed to it, the affects are different for each of us. Many of us have yet to realize that we have been affected by it. We attribute our ill health as a process of aging, which might be true, to a certain degree.

We look at other brothers suffering and we feel compassion, but alas it is not I, we think. We go on with life and our brothers and sisters pass away, into eternity and the battle of Orange claims another victim.

What we are learning some 50 plus years later is startling, disheartening and often depressing. We find that the Battle of Orange is from friendly fire. It is self-inflicted by our unsuspecting brothers and sisters utilizing one of the many weapons of war – chemical herbicides.

They are called “Rainbow” herbicides for their many colors – Blue, White, Orange, Pink (just to name a few) each with their own concoction of chemicals, some more deadly than others and effective on plants, animals and humans.

We have heard of their use on foreign soil, used against the enemy to deprive of food and cover. What we have not heard is they were manufactured in chemical plants here on American soil and tested at home and abroad.

We have learned of their being tested, stored and used at various military installations in the United States, in the Central American country of Panama, where they were tested extensively prior to and during the Southeast Asian war in Vietnam. We find they were used in places like along the DMZ of Korea and in US occupied military bases throughout Thailand and in the countries of Cambodia and Laos.

We were told not to worry because these chemicals were used on the perimeter of bases and did not affect anyone except military police and dog handlers patrolling the fence line. We were told nothing about the potential for “drift” outside the spray zone. We were told nothing about why in a tropical environment there was little to no vegetation growing inside military bases.

It has been more than 50 years since many of us were little more than children, in a land with so much hidden dangers all around us where we spent 12 months or more exposed. The department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has comprised a list of ailments that are VA recognized as a byproduct of exposure to herbicides, and even though we have one or more of these ailments, we must PROVE we were exposed.

Are not the ailments proof enough? Even with our brothers and sisters dying from these ailments, proof is being denied?

What about our families, our children, our grandchildren? We have family members who were exposed? We have children and grandchildren born with a host of uncommon ailments, diseases or worse?

When will our Battle of Orange, (Agent Orange) end?

The Busyness of Christmas

IMG_67009932350692

I wrote this back in 12-22-14, but it’s still true today – 12-24-2017

The Busyness of Christmas 2017

The holiday season is upon us. We have advertisements for “After Christmas Sale Now” and K-Mart has their infamous “Blue Light Special” only now it’s for Members Only? Gas prices are down in many areas to less than $2 per gallon for regular unleaded. We worry about getting the “right” gift for everyone on our gift list. We worry about sending out Christmas Cards, especially to those who’ve sent us one first? We make last minute phone calls to family and friends wishing them “Happy Holidays” and “A Joyous New Year”. Amongst all the hustle and bustle of making sure we’ve covered all the bases we mustn’t have forgotten anything. But have we really? We sing the songs; we eat, drink and are merry. But are we? We have our traditional viewing of “White Christmas” and “It’s A Wonderful Life”. We remember Tiny Tim and Mr. Scrooge. We have Scooby Doo, The Muppets, even Elvis. We have it all and still it’s not enough? Haven’t we forgotten something?

Let me submit this tidbit. It’s not about you, or me, or presents or eating and watching movies. It’s not even about Football! It’s not about getting the latest in electronics or the coolest car. It’s not about sitting around with family and friends reminiscing about “the good old times”. It’s not about getting Christmas Cards. It’s not about the holiday lights on many, many homes around town. It’s not about feeling good about doing good either.

Christmas is about love, unconditional love, the love of a Father for his Son, the love of the Creator for His creation. Christmas is about dying to be born. Christmas is about God becoming man to save man from sin. Christmas is about obedience to God. Christmas is about Jesus.

Jesus is the reason for the season. We are told that thru the obedience of a young woman named Mary, God gave his Only Begotten Son Jesus, born of a virgin, a living sacrifice, with the express purpose of dying for the sins of mankind. Christmas is celebrating this magnificent and one of a kind birth which goes against all sense of normalcy in the eyes of man. The King of Kings and Lord of Lord, born of an unwed (betrothed, but not yet married) mother, in a far away city (Bethlehem) where no lodging could be found, even for a full term pregnancy (9th month). Yes Christmas is celebrated because those chosen by God, submitted themselves to God so that the plan of God would be fulfilled.

Today (2017) we humble and submit ourselves to God by remembering what Christmas is all about. The reason for Christmas is Jesus Christ. – I am the Real Truckmaster

Exploring Thailand – My Way

road sign

I first went to Thailand as an 18 year old GI in February 1968. It was then that I developed a heart for the Thai people. They are friendly, extremely tolerant and forgiving as I began learning some of the customs and courtesies of these wonderful people.

I’ve had the opportunity to return to Thailand several times over the years, once by myself and that could have been a disaster, but wasn’t. Mostly it’s with my Thai wife of 48 years, and now that my kids and all my grandkids have been back, we are usually accompanied by friends who often haven’t gotten back home for quite a while. Each visit is an adventure. I make new friends, lookup old acquaintances (many of whom have passed on).

Let me tell you about Mr. Taipoosa (as I called him) was the tailor who came out to our small army camp at Khon Kaen. He would take orders for shirts, walking suits, or other clothing. He did his measurements, and then come back with the finished product. Normally they were made of Thai silk. His business took a direct hit when our unit left in 1970.

Over the years I managed to locate his shop, still in the same spot in downtown Khon Kaen. It is no longer a tailor shop, but a Kodak Camera shop. He had to reinvent his business and turned to developing film and printing photographs.

Normally when I’m in Khon Kaen I’d head downtown during the mid-morning hours and stop in to visit. Sometimes he was out of the country on business, other times he would be sitting behind his desk reading the newspaper. On one trip his wife (who still runs the shop) informed me that he had died. It was a shock and a wakeup call, knowing that we will all die one day. Today we are in the digital age and the shop can download photos from phones, cameras and flash drives; print and reproduce documents; and for a time was a center piece for foreign tourists (his English was good) who would frequently stop in asking for directions.

I enjoy walking around the downtown area, into the small shops and into the marketplace (talot) where you can find virtually anything and bargain for a good price, as bartering is the custom of Thai vendors.

Very rarely do I venture into the touristy areas, but some of the new indoor and outdoor malls are a place to meet some friendly people and come across some unusual (in American society) items for sale.

I call this exploring Thailand – My Way!

I have travelled north to the city of Chiang Mai, wandered thru a Hmong village looking for souvenirs, some of which can be pretty frightening, like a human skull (real or not, I didn’t ask). We went to a snake farm but nobody would venture out of the van. We stopped downtown at a factory that makes bamboo and silk umbrellas and fans. Interesting to see the process first hand and made by hand.

I’ve been to the city of Kanchanaburi where we walked across the River Kwai, on an old but still active railroad bridge, and sailed up the river on a boat, visited caves, museums and two foreign cemeteries where Japanese Prisoners of War (World War II) were buried.

One of the things I’ve done is rent a car and drive from Khon Kaen north to Nong Khai. After walking thru the sidewalk market and having fresh fish for lunch, we headed eastward along the Mekong River thru Nakon Phanom (NKP) and all the way to the town of Mukdahan, then returning via Sakon Nakhon and Kalasin, arriving back in Khon Kaen around 12 hours later.

I’ve driven on roads that turned into mere footpaths; other roads that ended in a cow pasture with a creek running thru it. I’ve driven thru Roi Et and Surin to the Sisaket Zoo near the Cambodian border (where the temple dispute continues today), then up to Ubon to visit friends who moved to Thailand back in 2002 or 2003.

I’ve been literally across Thailand, except to the very south around the Phuket area.

Until recently I’ve always returned to Khon Kaen where the people are always friendly. The last couple of years I’ve taken to the town of Cha Am, south of Bangkok and a bit north of Hua Hin. It’s a touristy town, lots of hotels on the beach. I haven’t come across any other American’s yet, mostly European Expats living the good life.

The Thai people are ingenious about what they do. They can spend hours on very tedious and time consuming labor projects that yield small profit (if any). They will build fireworks that dazzle the eye. The food is always fresh and extremely spicy. I like to begin with a cup of coffee and fried bread (Potango) and the perfect ending of a hot day is with a cup of Thai Ice Coffee (Oleang).

Thailand is a country full of contrasts. Workers in the rice field; fishermen in the water with nets; vendors with “street food” are the best. I see the westernization of Thailand with 7-11 stores literally on every corner. In Cha Am along a 1 mile stretch of the beach I counted more than 12 such stores.

Almost gone are the “Samlars” man powered bicycle taxi’s in many cities, they have been replaced by “Tuk Tuk” Diesel powered 3 wheel taxi’s, and there is talk about going to electric taxi’s to replace the modern version of the Thai “rickshaw”.

Motor scooters are abundant and often the only mode of transportation a family can afford. They are used to transport entire families of (4 or 5, or more) on a single trip. Scooters have been adapted to serve as delivery vehicles for all types of food, adaptable with a variety of specialty carts and you have the means for mobile service vehicles.

Traveling long distances, you have the choice of flying for mere pennies on the dollar (Baht). Maybe a tour van is your style? They are air-conditioned and even have refrigerators and televisions onboard. One can take an express bus that stops at designated rest areas, but the air conditioned environment inside the bus can be relaxing. I simply like to drive, whether it’s a rented vehicle or a family car. You have the freedom to make detours along the way and spend a bit longer exploring Thailand.

Sense my first time in Thailand I’ve noticed changes in the roads. Back then most were two lane roads with traffic going each way. Now they have become freeways of 2 – 4 lanes each way on a divided highway.

It’s been said that the difference between sightseeing as a tourist and connecting with the people of Thailand has to do with getting out and exploring your surroundings. Meet someone, have a meal with them. Get to know them and let them get to know you. It will warm your heart and bless your soul.
